Months of Service

The Months of Service field on the Accrual Plan Schedule tab will be used to determine how many hours should be accrued for a user during a Post process.   The system will determine which row to use from the accrual plan schedule by calculating the months of service based on the date of the accrual period being posted and the user's Hire Date -- as defined on their Person Profile.   If the period being posted has dates that would result in months of service spanning two entries on the accrual schedule (i.e., their anniversary falls in the middle of the period being posted), the system will prorate the accrued amount (see Admin >> Accruals >> Partial Accrual Periods).

A user is considered to have 1 month of service the first day of the second month of their employment (that is, the number supplied in this field will represent the number of complete months the user has already worked).

Each row will be used in conjunction with the next higher entry to determine the particular range for each entry.  Once you enter a value in this field, the system will derive and display the ranges resulting from your entries.  For example, entering three rows (0, 60 and 120) will result in the following three ranges: 0-59 month users, 60 - 119 month users and 120+ users.

While the Months of Service is calculated based on the user's Hire Date, note that the Hire Date does not necessarily need to reflect the user's true hire date.  For example, if you had a user that took a 3 month leave of absence, you might consider adjusting the Hire Date value forward by three months from its original value, such that the accrual calculations would not include those three months (if that is your company's policy).
