Owning Organization
Each Unanet project can optionally be associated with an Owning Organization. An Owning Organization represents the internal organization responsible for the project (and / or task). This relationship should not be confused with the Project Organization.
- The association between a project to an owning organization is managed on the Project Profile maintenance screen or optionally on the Task Profile screen.
- The Owning Org is a required attribute on a project when:
-
- the Financial Orgs property is enabled -- Use Financial Organizations (unanet.financials.use_financial_orgs)
-
- Note the associated org must be an organization that is designated as a Financial Organization (this designation is configured on the Organization Edit >> Financials tab).
- When this property is enabled, the list of available Orgs will be:
-
- limited to active Financial Organizations, otherwise, any active Organizations will be available when the Financial Org property is not enabled
- limited by those active Organizations to which the project manager has been granted Organization Access (via the Organization Access screen).
- a project is intended to participate in invoicing (regardless of whether you're using Financial Orgs)
- When using Financial Orgs and working with a project participating in Invoicing:
-
- Lead and Contributor projects must be within the same Legal Entity via their respective Owning Orgs
- Project Org must be a valid Customer for the Owning Org's Legal Entity
- If an Owning Organization has been specified at the task level, it will override the project level value for that task.
-
- For the Task Owning Org field, the available Organizations will be limited to those in the same Legal Entity as the Legal Entity for the Project level Owning org.
What is an Owning Organization?
An Owning Organization represents the internal organization responsible for the project (and / or task).
- When a project is configured to participate in Unanet invoicing, the Owning Organization is required and will determine the Remit To address that will be used.
- The Project Organization will be used to default the Bill To address (which is required), and the Ship To address (which is optional).
For example, a company might have West Division and East Division as Owning Orgs, where ACME Corp could be a customer (ie Project Organization) of both:
Owning Org |
Project Org |
Project |
West Division |
ACME Corp |
XYZ123 |
East Division |
ACME Corp |
ABC456 |
Time and Expense actuals can only be charged to projects/tasks having an active Owning Organization, as such, when associating an Owning Org with a project, only active Owning Orgs will be available for selection.
